Nine SFU golfers in action this month

Clan freshman of the year tied for seventh place at the B.C. men's amateur last week

Simon Fraser University golfer Chris Crisologo of Richmond finished tied for seventh at the 113th B.C. amateur championship at Fairview Mountain Golf Course in Oliver last week.

Crisologo was one of seven Clan golfers who qualified for the provincial championship.

A record nine Simon Fraser golfers from the men’s program are competing this month at various provincial championships.

Crisologo enjoyed an outstanding first season at Simon Fraser. He helped SFU to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division II nationals and was later selected to the NCAA Div. II PING All-America second team. Crisologo was also named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference freshman of the year.

At the BC Amateur, Crisologo finished tied for seventh, with SFU alum Michael Belle, with identical four-round totals of 291, three shots over par. Jared Dutoit of Kimberley, B.C., won with a 10-under-par 278.

Surrey’s Marcus Brown, who just completed his freshman season at SFU and Coquitlam’s Kevin Vigna, the GNAC player of the year, both finished tied for 31st after carding 12-over-par 300s.

Burnaby’s Alan Tolusso, who will be entering his junior season with the Clan in the fall, finished tied for 40th (302), teammate Michael Caan of Coquitlam, a Clan junior next season, was 53rd (307) and Langley’s Tony Ko, who will be entering his sophomore season, was tied for 78th (316).

Clan captain John Mlikotic struggled with an opening round 79 at the B.C. Am and missed the cut. A week earlier, Mlikotic won the Ogopogo Amateur Tournament, one of the most important tournaments in the province, after shooting nine-under-par. Mlikotic is returning to the Clan as an assistant coach.

Other members of the Clan will be competing in provincial championships in other provinces. Brayden Brown of Calgary has qualified for the Alberta men’s amateur and Bret Thompson of Winnipeg will be competing in the Manitoba championship.

In addition, 2015 recruit Mitchell MacLeod of Shanty Bay, Ont., qualified for the Ontario amateur.
