Simon Fraser University Erin Chambers signed a one-year contract with Lousada Académico Clube in the Portuguese Liga Feminina.

Chambers joined a Lousada club that finished ninth in the Liga Feminina standings last season with a 6-16 record.

“I would like to thank the Lousada Académico Clube for making my dream of playing basketball professionally come true,” said Chambers in a Slan Sports Management press release. “I am excited for the year ahead as I will be able to bring my versatility and competitive nature to the team.”

Chambers, a 6-1 guard/forward, is coming off a prolific career at SFU.

This past season, Chambers led the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and finished third in all of NCAA Division II with 23.5 points per game. She also averaged 5.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while shooting 87.6 per cent from the free throw line on the way to being named the Great Northwest player of the year.

Chambers was selected as a Div. II All-American honorable mention for the second straight year by both the Daktronics Commissioners Association and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Originally from Mission, Chambers made the Heritage Park Secondary School senior team as an eighth grader. She played five years there before starting her collegiate career at SFU.

As a sophomore in 2012-2013, Chambers was the conference defensive player of the year in addition to averaging 13.5 points per game and earning an All-conference second team selection. She also had a chance to represent Canada the following summer as a member of the 2013 Canadian university national team.

Chambers then took her offensive game to a new level as a junior, leading the conference and finishing sixth in Div. II with 23.1 points per game.

That season, she earned her first Daktronics Commissioners Association All-American honorable mention and set a conference record with 692 total points.

Chambers graduated as the conference’s all-time leader in career points with 1,946 and career made free throws with 472. She was also recently named the co-winner of Basketball B.C.’s 2015 most outstanding B.C. university female athlete award.

Chambers started 113 of 114 games over her four-year career at SFU.
