Three SFU golfers named to all-region team

All three return next season to the No. 4-ranked NCAA Division II men's golf team

Three members of the Simon Fraser University men’s golf team were named All-West Region in NCAA Division II by the PING Golf Coaches Association of America.

Freshman Chris Crisologo, sophomore Kevin Vigna and junior Bret Thompson were all selected to the 14-member West Region team. 

The three golfers topped the Great Northwest conference in scoring average while leading the Clan to their first-ever conference title and second-straight NCAA championship appearance.

Crisologo was named the Great Northwest freshman of the year this season. He tied the low round of the year in the conference with a 66 at the conference championships and led the Clan in scoring at both the NCAA West/South Central Regional and at the NCAA championships.

Vigna was selected the Great Northwest player of the year, while carding the lowest scoring average amongst the 48 conference golfers at 71.8 per round. Vigna ended the year with three top-five finishes and had 16 rounds under-par.

Thompson was the only member of SFU to win a tournament in the 2014-15 season. He was the individual champion at the conference championships, where he shot a Great Northwest record 205 total in the three-round tournament. His 68 and 67 in the first two rounds also set a conference record.

At the NCAA Championships, the Clan finished fifth in the stroke-play rounds, the highest ever by a Great Northwest team - becoming one of only eight teams to advance to match play. SFU fell to St. Leo to tie for a fifth-place finish following the match play round.

SFU ended the year as the fourth-ranked team in Div. II according to Golfstat. The three golfers ranked in the top 36 nationally as well, led by Crisologo who placed fifth.

Vigna and Thompson also entered in the top 10 all-time in Great Northwest career scoring-average at 73.52 and 74.46, respectively.

Cal State Monterey Bay led the West Region with four golfers on the team. Chico State tied with Simon Fraser for second with three apiece. 

The Div. II PING All-Region teams were made up of 116 golfers from eight different regions.
