Burnaby NOW reader Thomas Tricarico got an unexpected visitor just after 5: 30 p.m. on the afternoon of June 26.

Tricarico, who lives in North Burnaby near the Barnet Road area, said a black bear ambled into his backyard and he had just enough time to grab his camera and get some shots.

"Was I scared? Not really," said Tricarico. "If he had started to come toward me, maybe, but I would've gotten inside pretty quick."

Tricarico said the black bear wasn't all that intrusive, as the lovebird in a cage in his backyard wasn't even disturbed by the bear.

Tricarico wasn't the first person on his block to see the bear, as he noticed a neighbour go out the back door, see the bear, and then reverse track by going through the front door.

Tricarico said he tried to call the conservation office for the area, but he didn't get a response back.

This isn't the first time Tricarico has had a bear visit his place. He had a black bear come into his yard last year, as well.

"There's been lots of construction going on in the area, so maybe we're infringing on their (habitat)," he said.
