I wish to alert all Internet users, particularly seniors, to a recent scam. Someone, or possibly a group of people, hacked into my email account, read my emails and found my contact list.
They informed each contact that I had been mugged in London, had had my passport and credit cards stolen and was so destitute I wanted $2,000 sent right away to an address there. They must have found out that I had been in London a short while ago. It turns out the address is a MoneyMart.
Fortunately, most of my family and friends realized it was a scam and ignored it. Alas, one did send money, and was promptly asked to send more. This is when she got worried and realized the request was not legitimate.
I have changed my email address, but would like to warn all you seniors, if you receive a request for money on behalf of a friend or of family, please check it out first.
