Burnaby resident Linda Dawson is organizing this year's SuperWalk, a fundraiser for the Parkinson Society British Columbia, and she's hoping local residents will support the cause.
"Everybody is welcome to come and join in. Please give a donation, there's no donation that's too small," Dawson said.
The walk is scheduled for the Confederation Park track, on Monday, Sept. 9. Registration is at 1:30 p.m., and the walk is 2 p.m. To participate, just show up and register or go to www.parkinsonsuperwalk.ca or call Dawson at 604-298-2983 for more information.
Walkers raise money by collecting donations, and they can circle the track, roughly a quarter of a mile, as many times as they like.
The Tiddley Cove Morris Dancers will be there to lead off the walk.
Dawson, who suffers from Parkinson's, has been instrumental in organizing Burnaby's growing Parkinson's support group, and she also spearheaded last year's local SuperWalk.
The annual SuperWalk is a cross-Canada event that raises millions for Parkinson's research, education and support work and advocacy.
Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disease that affects an estimated 100,000 Canadians, causing tremors, balance problems, slowness and stiffness.
