EDMONTON — Alberta's police watchdog is investigating after officers fatally shot a man in a southeast Edmonton home.

Police in the provincial capital say they and RCMP officers with a specialized provincial internet child exploitation unit were executing a search warrant early this morning.

They say officers were speaking to the suspect inside and he stabbed a member of the Edmonton Police Service.

That resulted in officers firing their weapons.

Paramedics declared the suspect dead at the scene.

One officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
