The 14th annual Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival is set to have 12 bands performing on three stages, with a big Canadian headliner this summer.

On Aug. 10, Deer Lake Park will be brimming with music, enthusiasts and some of the best blues legends the world has to offer.

This year's headliner Blue Rodeo kicked off a cross-country tour in January to celebrate 25 years of making music together, and will bring the party to this year's festival.

"It's going to be pretty exciting," Jared Bowles, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts marketing sponsorship coordinator, told the Burnaby NOW in a phone interview. "It's the 14th one and we're looking forward to it."

The lineup also includes "the screaming eagle of soul" Charles Bradley, ZZ Ward, Shakura S'Aida and David Gogo, among others.

"We've had great success the last few years and we're looking forward to another successful one," Bowles said.

This year will have an additional stage, with three in total, to maximize the enjoyment for the 8,000 attendees who are expected to pack the park. The festival will also have food vendors and an artisan village, as it has in past years.

"The best thing about this is that ticket prices are the same as last year," Bowles noted. "Everyone gets more value for their money, more acts, more music and more fun for the same price."

Early bird tickets are on sale now for $65 each, or a pack of four for $180 at the Shadbolt Centre box office. Tickets on the day will be $75. Online ticket sales and the 2013 website launch will be on March 12 at www.burnabybluesfestival.com.

"Once the weather starts getting better, the sun will be here and summer will be right around the corner," Bowles added.
