Burnaby's child-care workers celebrated in May

Special event coming up at Shadbolt for local child-care workers

Child-care providers from around Burnaby and New Westminster will be recognized during a special event next week in honour of Child Care Month.

Sponsored by the Burnaby and New Westminster Early Childhood Development Committees, the event is aimed at celebrating local child-care providers and will be held at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on May 3.

Participants will enjoy a light meal, a chance to network with one another and door prizes.

Speaker Melanie Ray - a professional storyteller - will present Fishing For Stories.

The talk and interactive workshop will explore how personal stories and folktales can be developed to create and tell stories to children.

Kamala Sproule with the Burnaby Early Childhood Development Table noted in a release about the event that the month of May is a time to acknowledge the "dedication and hard work of those who take care of our children."

During the month of May, the province's child-care excellence award winners will also be announced.

Nominations for those awards were being accepted from January until mid-March.

Every year, the Ministry of Children and Family Development celebrates outstanding individuals, local governments, facilities and organizations delivering exceptional service to B.C.'s children and families.
