Consider changing one or two driving behaviours at a time and then add more once those changes become a habit.

Here are BCAA's top three fuel-saving tips to help shrink your monthly fuel bills: ? Watch that lead foot. Slowing down, maintaining steady speeds, along with avoiding jack-rabbit starts and hard braking are easy ways to save on gas. A European study found rapid acceleration from stoplights and hard braking reduced travel time by just four per cent in city driving - the equivalent of just over a minute every halfhour - but resulted in a 37 per cent jump in fuel consumption.

? Stay in tune. Keeping your vehicle's moving components properly lubricated and the ignition and emission systems operating properly will help maximize fuel efficiency and extend the life of your vehicle. Even something as simple as replacing a clogged air filter can make a measurable improvement in gas mileage. Follow the service schedules listed in your owner's manual and have the work performed by qualified technicians.

? Ensure your tires are properly inflated. Under-inflated tires will drag causing your vehicle to use more fuel. Over-inflated tires are more prone to bursting. Wrongly inflated tires will wear unevenly and reduce grip.
