Earlier this summer, Switzer won three straight World Cup events in the mountains of Europe.

DOUSE THE FLAMES

Grandview Steelers rookies Alex Roberts, Geoffrey Soo and Jordan Hall showed well in backto-back wins over the Ridge Meadows Flames in Pacific International Junior Hockey League preseason games last week.

The junior B Steelers defeated the Flames 4-3 at Planet Ice on Sept. 2. Grandview then won 4-1 at the Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday.

SEASON OPENING

The B.C. major midget hockey league will open its 2011/12 season on Sept. 24.

The annual league allstar festivities will be held in Coquitlam from Jan. 13 to 15.

The B.C. champion will face the Alberta Midget Hockey League champ in a regional championship to be held in Alberta from April 6 to 8.

The three-game series will determine the Pacific representative at the Telus Cup, which will be hosted by the Leduc Oil Kings of the Alberta league from April 23 through 29.

SELF EXPRESS-ION

The defending B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League champs lost a narrow 2-1 decision to the Coquitlam Express of the B.C. Hockey League on Sept. 2.

The loss was the first one to the Express following one-goal wins in 2009 and last season against the junior A club.
