Ravi Kahlon posted this photo online of a heartwarming note from a boy to his son.

It was a simple act of kindness last week that has gone viral across the world.

Delta North NDP MLA Ravi Kahlon got a welcome surprise from his son on Wednesday after returning home from Victoria.

His 10-year-old son and another boy had seen a new boy at their school sitting by himself outside and offered to sit with him to make him feel welcome.

The new boy later gave Kahlon’s son a note thanking him for the gesture, asking if he could hang out with them again.

A proud Kahlon posted the note on Twitter and the response was immediate as it was shared tens of thousands of times and received hundreds of thousands of likes, including from the likes Paul Stanley of Kiss fame and Oprah.

“Proud dad moment today. My 10yr old son saw a new kid sitting by himself. Another friend and he decided to hang out with him over lunch. He got this lovely note at the end of the day,” Kahlon Tweeted.

Delta school board chair Val Windsor told the Delta Optimist it’s heartwarming to see such a simple act of empathy and kindness get recognized, and she hopes it will inspire others.

She noted that listed within the Delta school district’s “Bold Vision” is compassion, empathy and acceptance.
