A man who stopped to help in a car accident near Qualicum Beach has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a third vehicle came along and crashed into scene of the first accident.

Oceanside RCMP said they were called to the scene of a crash on Highway 19A just north of Qualicum Beach shortly before 3 a.m on Saturday.

Police said a man driving along the road had stopped to help a female driver who had gone off-road and struck a pole, possibly due to weather conditions.

While they were both standing on the side of the road, a third vehicle collided with the woman’s vehicle that had gone offroad and struck them both.

All three drivers were transported to the hospital by emergency responders.

The man who had stopped to help the female driver sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the third vehicle is being investigated for impaired driving, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111.
