Mercedes driver who hit speeds of 200 km/h on Pat Bay Highway arrested: police

A 24-year-old Saanich man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a valid licence, and driving while using an electronic device.

The owner of the car, who was not the driver at the time of the incident, has come forward and has been co-operating with the police investigation, Saanich police said.

The driver of a green Mercedes that was seen weaving in and out of traffic on the Pat Bay Highway at speeds of more than 200 kilometres per hour has been arrested, said police.

A 24-year-old Saanich man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a valid licence, and driving while using an electronic device.

The owner of the car, who was not the driver at the time of the incident, has come forward and has been co-operating with the police investigation.

Saanich Chief Const. Dean Duthie called the driver’s behaviour “dangerous and reckless.”

“Lives of other motorists and road users were put at a heightened and unnecessary level of risk,” he said in a statement.

A court date has been set for July.
