A Coquitlam teen is using technology to help educate people about wild birds.
Grade 10 student Adam Dhalla is the co-creator of a new mobile game app called Find the Birds. It's available for free from Google Play and Apple's App Store.
Produced with help from the nonprofit group Thought Generation, the educational game allows players to virtually explore Arizona's Saguaro National Park.
Dhalla, who turns 16 next month, is already well-established in the birding world. He won the American Birding Association's Young Birder of the Year award in 2018 and was the youngest-ever presenter at the International Ornithological Congress.
The local nature-lover hopes the game will introduce a new generation to birdwatching while encouraging conservation education.
"I really can't see how being interested in birds after a long time can't lead to an interest in how can we save them," explains Dhalla.
The project is ongoing and will feature regular updates to add new locations, birds, and maximize interactivity.
