A former Burnaby mom is teaming up to help parents keep kids entertained and away from screens.

Kate Isaac, who recently moved from Burnaby to Vancouver, and Luna Cheng are the co-founders of BoredBox. The portable case is full of screen-free activities for kids to play with on the go. The idea is to provide parents with an alternative to handing over their phones to their kids when they’re trying to occupy them, notes a press release.

“Increasingly, many parents are feeling guilty about the pressure to constantly pull out their phone or tablet to pacify their kids when they’re on the go, and BoredBox is the solution,” reads the release.

The BoredBox includes a variety of items, including a magnetic chalkboard, maps, puzzles, colouring tools and more, and all in a neat little carrying case.

Isaac and Cheng’s goal is to raise about $518,000 and sell 5,000 boxes by Nov. 30. With only about $2,200 raised, they’ve still got a ways to go. For more information and to support the campaign, go to www.indiegogo.com/projects/boredbox#.
