Hemlock Printers named Burnaby’s Business of the Year

Hemlock Printers was the big winner at this year’s Burnaby Business Excellence Awards.

The Burnaby-based printer is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and to top off its golden jubilee year, the company was awarded the coveted Business of the Year award at an awards gala Thursday night at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.

“We are incredibly honoured and proud to have been named Business of the Year at the (board of trade) Business Excellence Awards. A big thank you to our amazing team for making this possible, and thank you to the Burnaby Board of Trade for a great evening!” read a statement by the company.

For the past 19 years, the Burnaby Business Excellence Awards have been recognizing outstanding businesses, business people and non-profits in the city. This year there were nine awards up for grabs, including Burnaby Community Spirit, Environmental Sustainability, Not-for-Profit of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Healthy Workplace, Business of the Year (up to 50 employees), Business Innovation, Business of the Year and Entrepreneurial Spirit.

The awards gala also honoured the 2018 Business Hall of Fame inductee Charlie Sigvardsen, owner of Charlie’s Chocolate Factory.

“The Burnaby Business Excellence Awards is a wonderful opportunity for us to recognize the enormous contributions of businesses and organizations both large and small that have helped to make Burnaby an innovative and dynamic business community. Every year I look at the nominees and I am truly proud not only of the winners, but of all our deserving finalists,” Burnaby Board of Trade president and CEO Paul Holden said in a press release.

  • Business of the Year: Hemlock Printers
  • Not-for-profit Organization of the Year: Burnaby Community Services
  • Burnaby Community Spirit: Vancity
  • Business Innovation: Kardium
  • Environmental Sustainability: Rocky Mountain Soap Company
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Dageraad Brewing
  • Healthy Workplace: Clio
