G&F Financial Group, which has its corporate office in Burnaby, donated a whopping $29,000 to B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation on May 31.
Employees held numerous fundraising activities to raise the money from March to May, according to a press release from G&F, surpassing its fundraising goal of $25,000. The cheque was presented at the foundation’s live televised Miracle Weekend event.
G&F has raised funds and donated more than $247,000 to the foundation over more than 15 years, according to the release.
Spacekraft connecting with community
Burnaby’s newest networking hub is ready to meet the neighbours.
Spacekraft, which is located in Metrotown’s Sovereign tower and was recently featured in the NOW, is hosting a community meetup.
“We want to gather potential members to find out what their needs are,” Geoffrey Scoates, Spacekraft’s general manager, wrote in an email to the NOW. “We're starting to plan educational programming, and we want them to be a part of it.”
The meetup is set for this Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., and will include a tour of Spacekraft and breakfast at Trattoria Burnaby.
Anyone interested in learning more about co-working, who is considering becoming a member at Spacekraft, can contact Scoates to reserve a spot at the meetup.
Lunch, learn, mix and meet with the BBOT
The Burnaby Board of Trade is holding four events next week, including its annual general meeting.
First up is the new members’ lunch and learn event next Tuesday at the board’s offices from noon to 1 p.m. The event includes a light lunch and an overview of the services available to members.

Also on Tuesday, June 16 is the Mix It Up joint chamber mixer with the Tri-Cities and Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge chambers of commerce.
The mixer takes place at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver’s theatre in Coquitlam from 5 to 8 p.m. The cost is $10 and is only open to board members.
The 105th Burnaby Board of Trade annual general meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
There will be a recap of the past year and an introduction to the newly sworn-in board of directors, as well as a presentation on business development in the digital age by Claudia Mason, a business consultant with the Business Development Bank of Canada. The cost is $30 per member, or $145 for a group of five members.
And after all this activity, members can relax on Friday at the board’s wellness seminar and yoga session.
The seminar with holistic nutritionist Andrea Bath and yoga instructor Claudia Nobauer runs from noon to 1 p.m. at Yoga Spirit and Wellness. The cost is $5.

Lighten up at Metropolis
Metropolis at Metrotown will be home to a free interactive light room beginning on June 26.
The installation, located in the grand court from noon to 7 p.m. daily until Sept. 7, is intended to celebrate the International Year of Light, according to a press release from the shopping centre.
The installation was inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama’s mirrored infinity room and the Social Soul experience at the 2014 TED Conference, according to the release. The room measures 20 feet by 35 feet and those who enter are immersed in an illusion of thousands of twinkling lights.
Those who share a photo from the installation via Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #METlightroom have a chance to win a $1,000 gift card from the mall, as well as other prizes.
Bayshore Home Health Burnaby raises funds for hospice
Employees at Bayshore Home Health Burnaby recently raised money for a local hospice society.
Money was raised via the Hike for Hospice fundraiser with pledges, bake sales and other initiatives.
The company raised $950.25 for the Crossroads Hospice Society, according to an email from Anna Wilczewski, Crossroad’s development and fundraising officer.
“Burnaby staff volunteer their time and culinary skills to support Crossroads Hospice Society’s Hike for Hospice,” Wilczewski wrote in her email to the NOW. “To date they have raised over $9,000 in support Crossroads.”
