A Burnaby-based group committed to helping people in their community got some help of its own last week.

100 Women Who Care Vancouver donated $12,500 to L’arche Greater Vancouver’s Neighbours Helping Neighbours program.

L’Arche runs homes and day programs for people with developmental disabilities. Its Neighbours Helping Neighbours program puts some of those individuals to work, helping seniors and people with physical disabilities community with gardening and light repair chores.

This allows the people they help to remain in the homes and communities they know, according to a press release.

Spokesperson Kim Jacob said the money will help the program expand to help more people in Burnaby, South Vancouver and New Westminster.

100 Women Who Care is a “membership-based group of diverse, like-minded women committed to helping others in our community,” the press release says. “We’re part of a powerful group of local women making an immediate, direct and positive effect on the lives of our neighbours.”
