Harmony Court Estate will be celebrating seniors who have made outstanding contributions to their communities this fall.

The annual Seniors of Distinction Awards honour seniors who have made valuable contributions in their communities, workplaces and families.

The awards are open to Burnaby and New Westminster seniors, and the deadline for nominations closed Aug. 15.

The award recipients will be announced at a ceremony on Friday, Sept. 23, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Harmony Court Estate. The event will take place in the dining room, at 7197 Canada Way, and there will be hor d’oeuvres and refreshments.

There are four nomination categories. The arts category is for seniors who have supported the visual, literary or performing arts communities. The leadership category is for service to associations and not-for-profit groups. The community service award is for seniors who have excelled in community fundraising or volunteering. The last category, health living, covers sports, gardening and recreation.

Harmony Court Estate is a seniors’ retirement home that provides housekeeping, meals and activities.

The Burnaby NOW is an official sponsor of the 2016 awards.
