The Burnaby Public Library is once again offering its Julia’s Studio workshops for teens.

The workshops are held in honour of Julia Nelson, former teen services librarian, who died in 2013 just months after being diagnosed with leukemia.

Each summer, teens entering grades 8 through 12 can take part in a series of workshops. This summer, the Bob Prittie (Metrotown) library branch will host the workshops on Wednesday in July from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

July 4 and 11 will see a two-part workshop in DIY Figurines. In the first session, teens will learn tricks and trips for making and designing their own figures and then making them from air-dry clay. In the second session, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., they’ll pick up tips for painting and colour mixing and then paint the figurines.

On July 18, teens can try out Stitch a Scrappy Stuffie. The library will have an assortment of fabrics, buttons, beads and other bits for participants to use, or teens can bring their own materials and supplies. No previous experience is required for any of the workshops.

Registration is required for each workshop. See www.bpl.bc.ca/events for all the details or to sign up.
