Mark National Indigenous Peoples Day at this Burnaby celebration

Burnaby residents are invited out to a celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day tomorrow (June 21).

Mamarudegyal MTHC (a.k.a. Diana Hellson) of Burnaby is one of the performers lined up to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at Civic Square on Friday, June 21.

Burnaby residents are invited out to a celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day tomorrow (June 21).

On Friday, June 21, the Burnaby Public Library and Burnaby Intercultural Planning Table are presenting a National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration at Civic Square, outside the Metrotown library branch. It runs from noon to 2 p.m.

From noon to 1 p.m., you can listen to storyteller Deborah Baker and watch a carving demonstration by Troy Baker. Then, from 1 to 2 p.m., you can take in a hip hop performance by local Indigenous artists Mamarudegyal MTHC, Hope and Doobie.

Free bannock will also be offered.

Civic Square is at Kingsborough Street and McKay Avenue (next to the Metrotown library at 6100 Willingdon Ave.)
