Burnaby firefighters stepped up to donate $500 for Impact Parkinson's Society at a fundraiser held at the local Me-n-Ed's pizza parlour.

The pizza and beer/wine fundraiser, held on July 18 at the Burnaby Me-n-Ed's location, was just one of several initiatives taken over the years by Lower Mainland Me-n-Ed's restaurants. The parlour raised over $250,000 raised by the annual golf tournament for the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Parkinson Society of British Columbian, heart-shaped pizzas raising funds for PSBC and the restaurant's participation in the Tour de Fox Pacific Northwest cycling ride in Port Coquitlam coming up on Aug. 17.

The latest event was organized by Impact to honour retired firefighter Bob "87" Radbourne, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 10 years ago.

Radbourne is one of the society's oldest clients at 84 years old, and has attended Rock Steady Boxing classes for people with Parkinson's twice weekly for more than three years.

Proceeds from the event at Me-n-Ed's went toward existing programming at Impact, along with developing new programming for families and individuals.

Radbourne worked 36 years at the Burnaby Fire Department and retired as assistant chief.
