Your car sharing options will dwindle this weekend thanks to one provider permanently ceasing operations and another going offline temporarily to implement what they're calling some “exciting changes.”

Evo will be unavailable to users from 11:59 p.m. Saturday through noon Sunday, according to the Vancouver car share service.

The company, which is operated by BCAA, says they will be "hard at work behind the scenes" during the 12-hour disruption.

In an e-mail sent to members earlier in February, Evo says they "know that there have been some service disruptions lately during peak drive times." In response, Evo says they have been working on a solution.

"We’re excited to announce that on March 1 you’re going to see some big changes that will get you where you need to go without tech glitches that can happen at peak times," they shared.

Those changes will be on the tech end — a new app — according to Evo's comments in response to customer queries on Facebook. The car sharing company, which is known for its often buggy app, says they've seen an influx of new customers due to Car2Go exiting the market this month.

"We have significant tech upgrades coming this weekend to address these problems so things should be a lot better after this weekend!" an Evo rep told one frustrated user online.

During the migration from the old app to the new one overnight into Sunday, Evo members may still be able to use their member car to tap into an available vehicle, however not all vehicles may show on the app during that time. Users are urged to carry their card with them, but also to consider making alternate plans until the tech changeover is complete.

Those plans, however, can't include Car2Go — which formally rebranded in 2019 to ShareNow due to the Germany-based business' merger with DriveNow.

As of July 2019, Car2go had been the world's largest car share operator. On Feb. 29 they are exiting the North American market completely, as well as several major European cities.
