Younger adults in Burnaby are leading the way when it comes to COVID-19 vaccination.

Vaccination rates amongst the 18-to-49 age group – which takes in Generation Z, Millennials and some Gen X'ers – are the best in the Fraser Health region, with 87% of that group now fully vaccinated, as of Oct. 5. A whopping 94% have received their first dose.

That makes Burnaby the eighth-best local area, among the 87 in B.C., when it comes to fully vaccinated 18-to-49-year-olds. All the locations with higher vaccination rates are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, with the Central Coast leading the way at 93% and two Vancouver neighbourhoods (northeast and midtown) coming in at 92%.

Burnaby's 50+ residents are lagging slightly, with 85% now fully vaccinated and 88% having received one dose. (No further data breakdown is provided for subgroups within that age category, so it's not clear whether the lagging vaccination rates are among Gen Xers, Boomers or the older Silent Generation.)

Among the city's entire eligible population (aged 12+), 86% are now fully vaccinated, and 91% have received one dose.

Those numbers are detailed in the B.C. Centre for Disease Control's surveillance dashboard.
