Ten to 20 COVID-19 cases detected daily in Richmond

This week, Richmond surpassed the 1,000 marker of total COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

On average, 10 to 20 Richmond residents are testing positive for COVID-19 every day, according to data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) Thursday.

In its data maps, Richmond’s daily COVID-19-positive rate is recorded at between five and 10 per 100,000 population (the population of Richmond is about 220,000).

The BCCDC maps show the total number of cases in Richmond since the start of the pandemic, as of Dec. 10, at 1,073 cases with 91 new ones reported over the past week.

This week, the BCCDC started releasing its data for the previous seven days, but it notes the data is the latest snapshot of live data and may be adjusted later (previously unknown residences might later be identified).

Testing continues at the Richmond collection site, located close to the entrance of the airport at the JetSet parking lot.

The testing site is open daily for drive-throughs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 5911 North Service Rd. Those who need to walk into a testing site can be tested at Richmond Hospital.
