Artists, activists and community members will join forces at Burnaby City Hall on Monday to “re-image” what Burnaby’s future will look like as a carbon-free city.
Force of Nature Alliance is hosting a “community art jam” on Monday, Sept. 16 in the south courtyard at Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way. Artists and community members are invited to turn out to paint symbolic representations of the future of Burnaby as a carbon-free city by 2050.
The move follows a vote by Burnaby city council on Monday, Sept. 9 to declare a climate emergency and commit to a more aggressive plan of emission reductions – with greenhouse gas emission levels down from 2007 levels by 45 per cent by 2030, 75 per cent by 2040, and full carbon neutrality by 2050.
“Local artists, Force of Nature volunteers and residents will use this action to show that Burnaby is set to bloom as a carbon-free city and send a clear message that Burnaby residents want council to adopt innovative climate solutions to meet the targets that have been set,” says a press release about the event.
The art action is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
