Burnaby Neighbourhood House is once again celebrating the art of local artists.

The organization’s north house, at 4908 Hastings St., is featuring a new exhibition throughout the month of June. Cabins/Raven Sun will feature the work of artists Darleyne Jeff and Kathy Woods, and an open house and meet-the-artists event is being held on Friday, June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.

A press release notes that Woods, who grew up in Burnaby and Vancouver, has always loved drawing and painting. Because her ability to form words is limited due to developmental delay and cerebral palsy, she expresses herself through art.

Her artworks explore “Kathy’s cabin in the woods” through watercolours, acrylics and pottery – all inspired by the trips her mother used to take, with Woods and her five siblings, to their cabin near Halfmoon Bay. Woods has also begun to explore abstract floral designs, using a palette knife technique to create bold colours. She’s also a potter and has been recognized for her plates and bowls with sunflower designs.

Woods has been creating pottery and paintings for more than 20 years through Pottery Works, a collective of artists run through the Community Living Society.

The artwork can be viewed anytime from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., during the month of June at 4908 Hastings St. See www.burnabynh.ca for more on Burnaby Neighbourhood House.
