Intimidated by a blank piece of paper? Unleash your inner artist at a Learn to Draw workshop.

But I can’t draw.

If you’ve ever uttered those words, then this is the workshop for you.

The Burnaby Public Library is hosting a Learn to Draw workshop by artist Dawn Livera that’s aimed at people who believe that they “cannot draw.”

“This workshop will help you discover your own hidden drawing abilities in a playful and relaxed way,” says a write-up about the session.

Participants will get some help to loosen up and convince themselves they can, in fact, draw, while learning a few drawing exercises to improve their skills and discovering some principles and elements of art.

Livera is a Burnaby-based mixed-media and textile artists “who believes that making art should not be the private domain of the ‘talented’ or ‘learned’ few,” the write-up says. “Rather, everyone should feel free to explore their own creativity without worrying about whether their art is ‘good enough.’”

The workshop is coming up at the Tommy Douglas branch (7311 Kingsway) on Sunday, Jan. 27 from 3 to 4 p.m. It’s also on at the McGill branch, 4595 Albert. St., on Monday, Feb. 11 from 7 to 8 p.m., and again at McGill on Saturday, March 9 from 3 to 4 p.m.
