Word nerds and lit lovers, you can find some kindred spirits at an upcoming event at Deer Lake Gallery.

The Burnaby Writers’ Society is holding its next Spoken Ink night on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m.

The reading night features Isabella Wang and Natalie Lim.

The society’s website notes that Wang’s debut poetry chapbook is forthcoming with Baseline Press in 2019. At age 18, she’s a two-time finalist and the youngest writer shortlisted for The New Quarterly’s Edna Stable Essay Contest. Her poetry has appeared in Room Magazine, Train Journal, Canthus, Plenitude and more, and she has a Pushcart Prize nomination for poetry. She’s studying English and world literature at Simon Fraser University.

Lim is a soon-to-be-graduate of SFU with a double major in English and communication. She recently won the 2018 CBC Poetry Prize for her first published work, Arrhythmia, a poem exploring her experiences as a third-generation Chinese Canadian.

Each Spoken Ink night also includes a critiquing workshop at the gallery before the readings, running from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.

The Spoken Ink reading series runs on the third Tuesday of each month, except July and August.

Deer Lake Gallery is at 6584 Deer Lake Ave. For more information about Spoken Ink, see www.burnabywritersnews.blogspot.com or email bwscafe@gmail.com.
