A pair of cast members from the Align Entertainment production of Legally Blonde have earned themselves 2019 OVATION! Awards.
The awards, which recognize the best musical theatre in the region, were presented at a gala held Sunday, Jan. 27 at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
Align Entertainment, which stages musicals twice a year at Burnaby’s Michael J. Fox Theatre, had earned multiple nominations for its two 2018 productions: Legally Blonde, staged in February, and A Christmas Story, which was onstage in November.
Vanessa Merenda earned Outstanding Ensemble Member of a Musical – Female for her work in Legally Blonde, along with Theatre Under the Stars’ Cinderella, Snapshots Collective’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Renegade Productions’ Rent and Gateway Theatre’s It’s a Wonderful Life.
Colton Fyfe of Burnaby earned Outstanding Ensemble Member of a Musical – Male, for his work on Legally Blonde, along with Fighting Chance Productions’ Guys & Dolls, Renegade Productions’ Rent and Rushed Productions' Albireo.
Legally Blonde, which was up for Outstanding Community Production, was beaten out by Royal City Musical Theatre’s Cabaret.
