The City of Burnaby is reaching out to artists to help make the city more colourful.

Artists who are interested in contributing to the city’s mural program are invited to attend an information session on Thursday, July 11 at city hall.

The session will cover details about the city’s mural program, including how to apply, what funding is available, eligibility requirements and what to include in a proposal. It will also cover some background on previous mural projects and take a look at what the future holds for the program.

Since 2008, the city’s mural program has supported more than 30 works of art on buildings.

“Participating artists represent a variety of styles, transforming open walls into landmarks of artistic and cultural expression city-wide,” says a press release.

The workshop is open to artists who’d like to paint murals, property owners who’d be interested in a mural on their building, students who’d like to take part in the program and community members or businesses wanting to support the program.

The workshop includes a presentation from the City of Burnaby’s mural coordinator and other guest speakers, followed by a question-and-answer session.

It’s on Thursday, July 11, 7 to 9 p.m. in the council chambers at Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way. Anyone interested in attending should RSVP to [email protected] by July 2.
