Elvie Batister won $500,000 on the Extra lottery draw.

Evie Batister of Surrey wasn't expecting to be shocked on a trip to the store earlier this month.

But she was; luckily, the shock was mixed with excitement, as she checked her ticket on a self-scanner at a Shoppers Drug Mart and saw she'd won $500,000 on the Extra prize on a Lotto 6/49 ticket.

"I was so shocked. I was shaking,” she says in a BCLC press release.

She excitedly called her husband.

“I called him over 18 times while he was at work,” she says.

Now that things have calmed down a little, she's planning a celebratory lunch with her family and then a trip to a financial planner. The bulk of the winnings are heading to her savings.

"Being able to help my family is all I want,” she adds.

She bought the ticket for the Aug. 21 draw at the Save-On-Foods on George Junction and King George Boulevard.
