Vancouver's hot streak (well, more of a warm streak) is coming to an end.
Two different systems are headed to Vancouver in the coming days, and while neither will bring dramatic weather, both will put a damper on things, according to Derek Lee, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
"Today and tomorrow will be the warmest days of the week," he tells V.I.A.
A high of 17 C or 18 C is expected today, May 8, and Friday, May 9, he adds.
Thursday will also be the sunniest day for the foreseeable future, Lee adds.
New weather for the weekend
A system currently over B.C.'s north coast will shift south over the next few days.
"By the time it reaches us, it should be fizzling," Lee explains.
While in the north there's rain, in Metro Vancouver the chance of precipitation is lower.
"The air mass is going to be quite unstable, so we might see some showers on Saturday," Lee says.
That means temperatures of around 16 C on Saturday and Sunday in the region.
Mother's Day forecast
On Sunday, Mother's Day, showers are more likely, but they still won't be particularly heavy.
"It's nothing super significant for sure, just light showers if anything falls on Saturday or Sunday," Lee explains.
Later on Sunday, the system will move on from Metro Vancouver.
How does next week look?
The forecast for Monday, May 12, onward is a little uncertain, he adds, but more clouds are expected as a different system that's gathering in Washington state right now moves north after the weekend.
"The springtime weather is more undetermined; it's harder to predict," he says.
If the Washington system does come to Metro Vancouver, it'll bring heavier showers over Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
With the cloudy skies and dampness, temperatures over the weekend are expected to drop a bit and stay there for the next week.
However, Vancouver has been going through a warm period, Lee says, so the decrease will just bring the city back in line with seasonal norms.
"What we're seeing for the next few days is near normal," says Lee.
