Vancouver Police Sgt. Mark Christensen shared an image of a car that he pulled over for driving over double the speed limit on a residential street.

Drivers often get creative when police officers pull them over for speeding — but some of their "excuses" are truly mind-boggling.

Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit Sgt. Mark Christensen took to Twitter on Oct. 8 to share an image of a car that he pulled over for driving over double the speed limit on a residential street.

The driver was clocked going 113 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, which will land them with a hefty fine and a seven-day vehicle impound. Since they were driving upwards of 60 km over the limit, they will be issued a $483 fine for excessive speeding.

But the speed at which they were travelling wasn't the most shocking part of the ordeal.

Christensen captioned that the driver gave him the "excuse of the week" for speeding. In his tweet, he wrote that the driver said, “I just washed my car and I wanted to get the water off it.”

The officer quipped, "I am sure your car will be dry when you pick it up in 7 days!"

Speeding driver tells Metro Vancouver police officer to 'focus on the drugs and alcohol killing people' instead

While some drivers make up excuses for their behaviour, others tell traffic enforcement officers to change what they are doing instead.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police officers recently pulled over a driver who was speeding 53 km/h over the limit, and the individual asked "why police don't do their job [and] focus on the drugs [and] alcohol killing people."

Naturally, the point wasn't well-received and Transit Police noted in a Twitter post that there were a staggering 252 fatal traffic collisions in 2019 in B.C. and speed was the biggest contributing factor.
