What are the odds of a white Christmas in Vancouver?

It has to actually snow on Christmas Day for your bet to land. You can also bet on what day will be the coldest in January

A beautiful snowy winter scene in Richmond earlier this week. But will snow fall on Christmas Day in Vancouver? BCLC says the odds are 6/4

It may sound like a bit of a no-brainer, but there are odds available if you want to have a bet on it being a white Christmas in Vancouver.

The odds on BCLC’s PlayNow.com are actually fairly good, at 6/4 – or 2.50 in decimal terms – of snow falling on Christmas Day.

But the catch is that it does not count the massive snowfall that fell earlier this week or the latest Arctic blast that's expected to come late tonight and into Friday.

It has to actually snow in Vancouver on Dec. 25 for the bet to be landed – something that hasn’t happened since 2008.

And with temperatures set to rise significantly on Christmas Eve, taking us out of this incredible -21 wind-chill Arctic blast, heavy rain is forecast for Christmas Day.

PLayNow.com has Victoria the same odds as Vancouver, while the chances are much higher of snow falling in the likes of Ottawa, Regina and Winnipeg, where the odds are a skinny (1.20), with Toronto (1.40), and Montreal and Calgary (1.50).

A bit more fun may be had by betting on when the coldest day will be in January.

January 1-6 is 5.00, January 7-11 is 5.50, January 12-16 is 5.00, January 17-21 is 4.50, January 22-26 is 3.50 and January 27-31 is 3.50.

Typically, the early days of January tend to be frigid. In 2022, the coldest day of the month was January 1 with a low of -10 degrees. In 2021, it was January 23 (minus 4 degrees) and in 2020 it was January 14 (-8).
