1. It’s the final weekend to check out two exhibitions at the Burnaby Art Gallery. Molly Lamb Bobak: Talk of the Town and Julie McIntyre: Travel Stories finish their runs at the gallery on Sunday, so if you haven’t dropped by yet, you’d better get on it. 2. Meet professional engineers, learn about geoscience and see exciting displays at the annual Popsicle stick bridge contest hosted by Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. The event runs Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bonsor Recreation Complex, 6550 Bonsor Ave. Kids who pre-registered will compete for prizes in the Popsicle-bridge building contest while visitors check out their work and other displays.
3. Search for buried treasure at the Bonsor used kid-stuff sale on Sunday, April 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bonsor Recreation Complex, 6550 Bonsor Ave. You can expect more than 65 tables selling everything from kids’ clothes to toys. Admission is free and there will be face painting, crafts and an imagination playground for kids from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more info, call 604-297-4597.
4. Stock up on dancing attire at the Swinging Singles of B.C. Square Dance Club recycle sale. It’s happening Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Charles Rummel Hall, 3630 Lozells Ave. (at Government Street). Items for sale include lightly used dance and vintage clothing including dresses, blouses, skirts, crinolines, pettipants, shirts, pants, shoes and accessories. Hungry, too? 5. Add a little colour to your home or office with some original artwork from one of the many talented artists featured at the Burnaby Artists Guild’s show and sale. It runs Friday from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Ave. There will be original artwork for sale, greeting cards, on-the-spot portraits, a raffle and more. 6. Start your Sunday with a little deep breathing at the weekly community yoga class at Brentwood Town Centre, 4567 Lougheed Hwy. Led by Yoga Spirit and Wellness, the hour-long class from 10 to 11 a.m. will help you stretch, strengthen and revitalize your body to feel good heading into your week. No experience needed. Participation is by donation. The class takes place in the community space beside Ronsons Rack on the upper level.
7. Get building at the weekly LEGO Club meet-up at Burnaby Public Library’s McGill branch, 4595 Albert St. The drop-in program runs Saturday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and is open to kids four and older. Participants will get to play with the library’s extensive LEGO collection, and even parents can join in the fun. Caregivers and/or parents are asked to accompany kids under 10 years old. No registration is required.
