Holiday spirit: Stephen D’Souza, executive director at Burnaby Community Services, is hoping to fill these shelves with toys for children for the annual Christmas Bureau.

Burnaby Community Services is hosting a fundraising gala to raise money for the Christmas Bureau.
The annual Burnaby Christmas Bureau provides toys for local children from low-income families and Christmas hampers for seniors.
“This event is really about bringing the community together to celebrate the work the Christmas Bureau does. It’s a big part of our fundraising,” said Stephen D’Souza, executive director of Burnaby Community Services, which facilitates the bureau.
Entertainment at this year’s event will include Burnaby crooner Stephen Scaccia. There will be wine and other items up for auction, as well as a raffle, with proceeds going to the bureau. Tickets are $65 and include a buffet dinner. The Fill a Stocking Fulfill a Wish event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 21, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Grand Villa Hotel at 4331 Dominion St. in Burnaby.
Last year, the bureau helped nearly 4,000 people, which included 2,247 children and 75 seniors. For more information or tickets, call 604-299-5778 or go to www.burnabycommunityconnections.com.
