During the second week of May, the focus in Burnaby will be on mental health.
To mark the annual Mental Health Week, there are a number of events being organized around the city.
The Canadian Mental Health Association and Mood Disorders Association of B.C. will be on hand at Bob Prittie Library on Monday, May 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., with exhibits and information tables. Both groups will present again on May 12, at McGill Library, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Also on May 7, from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m., the Canadian Mental Health Association will host a free workshop titled Resilient Minds in Tough Times. Pre-register by calling 604-436-5400.
On May 8, from 3 to 5 p.m., the FORCE Society for Kids Mental Health will have a table and exhibit set up at Tommy Douglas Library, 7311 Kingsway.
The Mood Disorders Association of B.C. will be back on Wednesday, this time at Cameron Library and Recreation Comples, with an exhibit and information table from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Later that night, at 6 p.m., guest speaker Jeannie Rohr will provide resources and education for parents navigating the mental health system.
On Thursday, May 10, the Your Wellness Day Fair will run from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Wellness professionals will be on hand to provide information about nutrition, herbal medicine, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and other mental wellness strategies.
The week will kick off with the Stand Up for Mental Health comedy night, on Monday, May 7, starting at 8 p.m., featuring David Granirer, and special guests Ardell Brophy Fitzpatrick, Susan Hansen and headliner Tanyalee Davis.
