Forest Grove principal Al Post woke up on the roof of his school Friday morning, but it wasn’t a fit of sleepwalking that brought him there.
The Burnaby administrator had pledged he’d spend a night on top of the building if 100 school families signed up for the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.
He had made a similar promise last year, but the school fell short, and Post didn’t have to put his money where his mouth was.
This year, though, the school met its goal, and the Forest Grove principal was on the roof from Thursday to Friday morning.
“I slept actually not too bad,” a pajama-clad Post told the NOW Friday morning.
Besides raising nearly $5,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and boosting healthy activity among participants, the Jump Rope for Heart campaign at the school culminated in a community campfire Thursday evening, complete with hot chocolate, s’mores and singing, before Post settled into his rooftop tent for the night.
“It was great,” Post said.
Heart and Stroke community development coordinator Sandra Griffin said fun campaigns like Forest Grove’s are great for raising awareness about a program that collects money for a good cause and ups fitness among students.
“For us it’s crucial to spreading that word and getting more schools involved,” she said.
