Looking for a way to keep your children busy while school's out for spring break?
The Wildlife Rescue Association is hosting camps for kids with an interest in nature.
All camps are for kids aged six to 12; they run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the suggested donation is $25.
On Friday, March 23, the focus is on food wild animals eat in spring, and kids will build a hummingbird feeder.
For more information, or to sign up your child, call 604-526-2747 or email [email protected].
The association's headquarters are at Burnaby Lake.
The group specializes in rehabilitating injured or orphaned wildlife.
WHO DONE IT?
Burnaby Community Connections is hosting a murder mystery fundraiser on Saturday, May 12.
Tickets are $50, and proceeds go to the camping bureau, which sends kids from low-income families to camp.
There will be a host of actors playing various roles as guests try to figure out who committed the murder, and I will be there playing the part of a reporter.
The event is at the CanAm Importique, a giant props warehouse, from 6 p.m. to midnight.
There will also be food, music and dancing. So come out, have fun, and make some deserving kids happy little campers by supporting the cause.
Call 604-299-5778 for more information or tickets.
TIME TO GRIEVE
The Burnaby Hospice Society and Deer Lake United Church are inviting local residents for a special memorial service on Wednesday, March 28 to reflect on the loss of loved ones.
The service runs from 1 to 1: 30 p.m., and there will poetry, music, a candle-lighting ceremony and refreshments after the service.
To have the name of your loved one included in the service, contact the society in advance at 604-520-5024 or email info@ burnabyhospice.org.
FREE MUSIC
We don't do music reviews at the Burnaby NOW, but people send us CDs from time to time.
The latest one is called Shiver from Caracol, aka Carole Facal, a French folk, indie-pop singer. The first person to email me with Shiver in the subject line can have the CD, but you need to pick it up at our office, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
