Candle light memorial on in Burnaby

Event is for people who've lost children, siblings or grandchildren

A mother’s loss: Grace Van Gauthier holds a photo of her son, Shaun, who passed away. The bereaved mother runs a support group in Burnaby for parents who have lost children, and she's hosting a candle light memorial this Thursday.

The holidays can be difficult for people who have lost loved ones. That’s why the Burnaby chapter of The Compassionate Friends of Canada is holding a candle light memorial this Thursday at 7 p.m.

Compassionate Friends is a support group for parents whose children have died, and the group meets regularly at the Burnaby Hospice Society at 4535 Kingsway on the fifth floor.

“We do this to honor our children, siblings, grandchildren - that their light may always shine,” wrote Grace Gauthier, chapter coordinator, in an email to the NOW.

Thursday’s event will include a candle light memorial, refreshments and socializing afterwards.

To attend, RSVP by emailing [email protected] or call 778-222-0446. For more information on The Compassionate Friends of Canada, visit www.tcfcanada.net.
