While there aren't actual time machines at the Burnaby Village Museum, there is the opportunity to be transported into the past this weekend.
The museum is celebrating Burnaby's transportation heritage as part of the City of Burnaby's two-week-long birthday bash, according to a press release from the city.
The city is celebrating its 120th birthday, which takes place on Sept. 22, from Sept. 15 to 30.
The Burnaby In Motion event takes place at the museum on Sept. 29 and 30.
"The Interurban 1223 tram is the 100 year-old belle of our ball," the release stated.
On Sept. 29, there will be expert speakers on hand to speak about the early B.C. Electric transportation network. There are four sessions in all, and those interested in attending are encouraged to register beforehand.
The Interurban 1223 tram barn will also be open on both days, with activities and entertainment taking place throughout the village.
There will also be vintage and modern-day riding toys available, transportation-related crafts for kids, and vintage buses from the Transit Museum Society, according to the release, as well as a model railway display by traiNgang and a bicycle valet service by Better Environmentally Sound Transportation.
The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. both days. Admission is free, and carousel rides are $2.30 each.
The city's 120th birthday events are supported by a $75,000 grant from the provincial Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, according to a previous release.
