City cadets earn awards

Kudos to Burnaby Air Cadets Samantha Chum of the 637 Arrow Squadron and Justin Phan of the 759 Falcon Squadron. The two received honours during the final graduation parade at the Albert Head Cadet Training Centre in Metchosin, on Vancouver Island.

Kudos to Burnaby Air Cadets Samantha Chum of the 637 Arrow Squadron and Justin Phan of the 759 Falcon Squadron. The two received honours during the final graduation parade at the Albert Head Cadet Training Centre in Metchosin, on Vancouver Island.
Samantha was named top cadet in the military band intermediate musician course. She also plays in Moscrop Secondary’s band.
Justin received an award for most improved for a drill and ceremonial instructor course.
Five other Burnaby cadets also received similar awards: Michael Lin, Eunice Lui, John Mari, Arka Roy and Brian Wong.
In other cadet news, Burnaby’s Jean-Paul Morneau, Gordon Emerslund and Shamim Shahrezaei spent the summer at the Regional Gliding School in Comox. The three were among 44 air cadets chosen from across the province for an air cadet glider pilot scholarship course.

Citizenship help
The Burnaby Public Library and MOSAIC are teaming up to help newcomers prepare for their citizenship test.
The McGill library branch is hosting a two-day workshop on Monday, Sept. 23 and Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The classes offer an in-depth look at the test, and refreshments are provided.
The workshop is free, but space is limited, so sign up in person at the library or call 604-299-8955.
