If you're looking for something fun to do for Earth Day, the Wildlife Rescue Association is hosting a nature festival for families at the Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion on Sunday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The association, which rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife at a facility on Burnaby Lake, is organizing guided wildlife walks, bird and bee box building activities, canoe rides, face-painting, a treasure hunt, crafts and arts.
"It's a family nature festival, so it's for people to find out more about sustainable living and the local environment and things they can do," said association spokesperson Yolanda Brooks. "We have donation boxes, but entrance is free and the activities are free."
The bird box and bee box building kits are popular, Brooks said. They come with instructions, and volunteers are ready to help with assembly.
"There's a lot of loss of habitat for local wildlife, so that's a problem they have, and making your garden a place that's friendlier for wildlife is giving them back a bit more space," she said.
Because the canoe rides have been so popular in the past, there will be more this year, Brooks said.
The annual event drew approximately 1,100 people last year.
