Earthwise Society is kicking off the growing season with a unique community event called Wellness in the Garden.

This fun, family-friendly event will bring members of the community together to celebrate the Year of the Garden and enjoy a day of learning, tasting, and connecting, with a focus on health and wellness. The event, to be held on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include chef demos, wellness workshops, and a plant sale, as well as a week-long silent auction featuring some incredible local prizes.

The Earthwise Garden is in full bloom, so this is the perfect time to come for a visit and celebrate the value of gardens, gardening, and healthy living.

In addition to providing a natural gathering place that brings the community together, the Earthwise Garden models sustainable gardening practices. Garden enthusiasts will be able to choose from a great selection of pesticide-free plants at the event’s plant sale, including native, shade tolerant, drought-resistant, and pollinator-friendly plants.

Wellness in the Garden will feature several workshops that focus on different health and wellness themes: Gardens & Healthy Eating, Gardens & Wellness and Gardens & Nature. Long-time Earthwise partner chef, Derek Bothwell, will be on hand to demonstrate some healthy springtime recipes using seasonal Earthwise produce- think fresh juices and salads- and for those interested in learning how to grow their own food gardens at home, Earthwise farm coordinator, Matt Johnson, will be offering a hands-on workshop all about food gardening.

If you are curious to learn more about the healing nature of gardening activities, Earthwise Society’s registered Horticultural Therapist, Katie McGillivray, will be hosting a therapeutic garden walk, a herbal linen spray workshop, and a herbal bath salt workshop. Pre-registration will be required to attend the workshops, so please visit the Earthwise website at www.earthwisesociety.bc.ca for more information, including times.

Earthwise is also thrilled to be presenting a week-long silent auction to coincide with the Wellness in the Garden celebration. The auction will feature a wonderful array of exciting local prizes, including round trip tickets between Vancouver and Victoria from Pacific Coastal Airlines, a gift basket from West Coast Seeds, memberships to local attractions, gift cards and baskets from a variety of local vendors, a one night stay at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn, and many more! Bidding will open on the Earthwise website on May 9.

Proceeds raised through the Wellness in the Garden event and silent auction will enable Earthwise to continue providing public education and food distribution programs throughout the coming year. For more information about the event, please contact info@earthwisesociety.bc.ca.
