Edmonds honours fallen soldiers

Edmonds Community Centre is holding a Remembrance Day ceremony to honour the men and women who have served in war over the decades.

Edmonds Community Centre is holding a Remembrance Day ceremony to honour the men and women who have served in war over the decades.

"In a way, it's almost like a church service," said David Timms, a commanding officer with a group of South Burnaby cadet that will be performing at the ceremony.

Timms said the service honours those who served in the South African war, both world wars, Korea and Afghanistan.

Mayor Derek Corrigan and local MP Peter Julian will be speaking at the event.

The event will start with flag-marching ceremony, (from the 637 Arrow Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron that Timms oversees) and includes a wreath-laying ceremony, poetry and songs.

The ceremony is on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m., at 7282 Kingsway. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 604-297-4400.
