You don’t have to be a party animal to support the Burnaby B.C. SPCA, but you can certainly enjoy yourself at Pints for Paws.
The fundraiser for the Burnaby shelter is one of the annual events that the SPCA holds in the city.
“We get a really positive outpouring of support from the community,” said Rachel Nelken, community council chair for the B.C. SPCA Vancouver/Burnaby. “People really enjoy coming to these events.”
There will be games, draws and door prizes, as well as a silent auction. Auction items include gift cards to boutiques and restaurants, spa gift certificates, Canadians tickets, and gift baskets, such as those with chocolates from local chocolatiers.
“There’s always a diverse offering,” Nelken said.
The money goes directly to the Burnaby B.C. SPCA, she added. It can cover medication, food and supplies to make the animals comfortable, it can go to a kids’ summer camp program, or even animal cruelty investigations – but all of the funds support the work of the Burnaby SPCA branch, according to Nelken.
As a non-profit, the SPCA relies on donations from individuals and corporate donors to run its shelters and programs, she added.
“Last year, the Burnaby B.C. SPCA cared for nearly 1,000 injured or unwanted animals,” she said. “So that’s pretty significant.”
The Pints for Paws fundraiser takes place on Saturday, April 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Admiral Pub, 4125 Hastings St. Tickets are $25 and the price includes a veggie or salmon burger, fries or salad, and a beer. See www.tinyurl.com/BbyPintsForPaws.
