Burnaby Village Museum is giving local residents a chance to experience hands-on heritage and culture. The village is offering a number of winter workshops for adults delving into a variety of subjects, all aimed at people aged 16 and up.

Burnaby Village Museum is giving local residents a chance to experience hands-on heritage and culture.

The village is offering a number of winter workshops for adults delving into a variety of subjects, all aimed at people aged 16 and up. Among the upcoming sessions:

  • The Art of Chinese Calligraphy: Calligraphy was the visual art form prized above all others in traditional China. Participants can explore the beauty of the ancient art and try their hand at creating their own calligraphy masterpiece. It’s on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $40.
  • Cookie Cutter Workshop: In this introduction to tinsmithing, participants will use hand tools to make a silhouette cookie cutter out of copper or tin. It’s on Saturday, Feb. 3 from noon to 4p.m. and costs $45.
  • Indigenous Tea Making: Cease Wyss, an Indigenous ethnobotanist and educator, leads this workshop in tea making. Participants will get to know the plants that grow around us and make their own tea. It’s on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and costs $25.
  • Story Sleuth Seminar: What stories can you tell about your family or neighbourhood? In this session, participants will look at how to gather information from historical sources and turn them into engaging stories. It’s on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. and costs $25.
  • Love Farmhouse Kitchen Classics: The farmhouse hosts a series of Saturday morning workshops, running from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Among the upcoming sessions are Sourdough Starter on Feb. 17, Brined Pickles on Feb. 24, Ginger Beer on March 3 and Sauerkraut on March 10.
