If you’re looking for some family fun for spring break but you don’t need full-time day camps, why not check out a Burnaby Public Library branch near you?
The library is offering a number of programs for kids and teens over spring break, which runs March 19 to 29, followed by Easter weekend March 30 to April 2.
Among the offerings:
CRAFTERNOONS
The McGill library branch (4595 Albert St.) is offering spring break “Crafternoon” sessions for children aged five to 12, running weekday afternoons from March 19 to 29. Everyone’s invited to drop by the information desk to pick up supplies for the craft of the day. Craft sessions run from 1 to 3 p.m., but arrive early since space is limited. No registration is needed.
LEGO CLUB
Kids can also enjoy some LEGO Club sessions for spring break. McGill branch hosts drop-in sessions on Tuesday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 27 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., aimed at young builders aged four and up. Caregivers must accompany children under age 10.
COMIC STORIES WORKSHOP
Artist Janice Liu of Young Artists’ Place offers up a two-part workshop for youth in grades 8 through 12 on creating your own short comic stories. Part 1 runs Wednesday, March 14 from 4 to 6 p.m., and part 2 is Wednesday, March 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. It’s offered by the Cameron branch in the Juniper Room at Cameron Recreation Centre, 9523 Cameron St.. It’s free, but space is limited, so you must sign up online (see www.bpl.bc.ca/events).
MOVIE SCREENING
Want to catch a family film? The McGill branch is showing Despicable Me 3 on Thursday, March 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It’s open to all and it’s by drop-in; no registration is needed. Parents must accompany children under 10.
GAMEFACE
This casual board game night for youth in grades 6 to 9 is offered at the McGill branch on Friday, March 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. Board games and snacks will be provided. It’s free – all you need to do is sign up ahead of time, online at www.bpl.bc.ca/events or at any library information desk.
THE JUNGLE SHOW
Youngsters are invited out to the McGill branch for The Jungle Show, a presentation of puppets, skits, songs and stories. It’s on Thursday, March 29 from 3 to 3:50 p.m. and again from 7 to 7:50 p.m. It’s aimed at children three and up, but parents must accompany everyone under 10 years old. You don’t have to sign up ahead, but arrive early since space is limited.
